Trip to Rumassala, Gall, Sri Lanka

It was all with fun....at the ultimate trip to rumassala. All things were as planned. We could gather round 15 of our ENCM's + 1friend of puty from Mora Eng. So, altogether14 from Colombo and from Gall, Nirasha & Nadee joined the team!! Altogether a team of 16! Train was right on time (6.55). We had a travel of 3+hours by train along the beauty of the southern coast. From Gall we had to take a bus to bounavista, we got down near Holcim plant, & then on wards walk............ It seems most of us was lack in fitness when we faced the mountain!!

It was too late for bird watching.... but we could catch up few including
# Yellow-fronted Barbet (Megalaima flavifrons) an endemic resident breeder in Sri Lanka.
# The White-bellied Drongo, (Dicrurus caerulescens),

we had our lunch at the beach under the shades of trees.. We were able to witness two primitive monkey species.

# Toque Macaque (Macaca sinica) a reddish-brown coloured Old World monkey endemic to Sri Lanka, where it is locally known as the 'Rilewa'
# Southern Lowland Wet zone Purple-faced Langur (Trachypithecus vetulus vetulus ) mainly brown with a dark facemask and paler lower face. A species of Old World monkey endemic to Sri Lanka. Locally known as the 'wandura'

After the lunch we look forward to Japan Pagoda, It was situated in one of the hills at Rumassala, facing the Sea. It was so panoramic, You got to see it!!! The Temple hasn’t constructed completely, but the "Chaiththya" has competed. and it was with so much of beauty. Menan was very demanding there, as our official photographer!

Then we ahead towards "Rumassala Soba ketha" lot of trees (mostly we were unable to identify coz of our Huge knowledge of botany!!), dominantly the bushes! It seems that the place hasn't protected in a manner, whole lot of civilization! Which has conqur the wild?
Among butterflies we could observe
# Common mormon (Papilio polytes)
# Common Grass Yellow (Eurema hecabe simulata)
# Blue Mormon (Papilio polymnestor parinda)

Our Team leader, the Main organizer, Janith was leading us through a foot path through the forest!! Finally we were able to reach to the World famous tropical beach "Unawatuna"... From few minutes we all were in water, Janith has already bought a plastic ball (wroth Rs: 350+) from Colombo, for us to play in beach. It was not so sunny but not bad... We had whole lot of water sports... As we had to catch the 3.45 train from Gall, sadly came out from the sea... Just visited the "welle devalaya". We had to rush... as we were running out of time. However we are not so unlucky to miss the train. We were back in Colombo by 7.00p.m.
Our trip to Rumassala came to concluded.
Hoping towards next trip.....
